Auto-save

File Commander PRO automatically creates backup copies of the files you are currently working on. With backup files you get the following benefits:

  • Safety - If XMLSpy crashes you can restore the last file content from the backup.
  • Convenience - You don't need to save any now and then any longer.
  • History - You can revert to the last version even if you lost your Undo buffer. Be aware that switching between view modes in XMLSpy cleans the undo buffer of the document!

The plugin writes a backup file in the following circumstances:

  • If the active document is modified and the time period for auto-save from the Settings is over.
  • On deactivating or closing the active document if the document is also modified a backup file is written even if the auto-save time period is not over.
Restoring files

You can restore files from the backup on the History tab of File Commander PRO. Restoring a document means that a new untitled file with the file extension of the original file is created. The backup file is not deleted on restoring.

If a date and time entry appears in the AutoSave column on the History tab a backup file is available for this document. By choosing the "Restore from AutoSave" command from the context-menu the document is restored and a new untitled file with the saved content is created.
